About

Beginnings

In June last year a colleague and I attended a session called “Geeks and Treats” at the SSTUWA Women’s Conference. Before this session I had heard the word ‘blog’ but didn’t know anything about them. That day I began a journey into the world of Web 2.o.

Blogs, wikis, nings, widgets … I had so much to learn. The best piece of advice I received that day was to keep a small notebook with my user names and passwords for all the different applications I subscribed too. I tried lots but over the past 9 months have found the ones that work best for me although I am continuing to add to my list at an alarming rate especially since I became a twitterer.

My first blog was for my class and after looking at several options I decided on a Classblogmeister blog for several reasons.

The security on the internet was a huge concern for the school community and when we started our blog was only read class mates, parents and other staff members.

I looked at Learnerblogs and Edublogs as well as Classblogmeister and decided that I could get started more easily on Classblogmeister.

At first the blog was closed but after the parents saw the responses from their children when other students and parents made comments they agreed to let me open the blog so we could look and comment at other blogs and they could do the same for us.

Since July 2007 I have learned so much about Web2.o tools and am continuing to learn day by day.
